Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026. WeatherLive.org is built to work with as little personal data as possible — no accounts, no profiles, no data sales.

What we process

• Approximate location from your IP address. When you open the site we perform a coarse IP-to-city lookup (using a local GeoLite2 database, or the ip-api.com service as fallback) so the homepage can show your local forecast and pick sensible units. The result is cached briefly; your IP is not stored beyond this lookup and is never used for advertising.
• Your preferences. If you pick a city, switch the theme or change °F/°C, we remember the choice in small cookies on your own device (see Cookies).
• Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs (IP, URL, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting, retained for a limited period.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or share personal information for money or anything of value.
• We do not run advertising trackers or cross-site tracking.
• We do not require accounts or collect names, emails or payment data.

Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect (only the categories listed above: coarse IP-derived location, preference cookies and routine server logs), the right to request deletion, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. WeatherLive does not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and never has — so there is nothing to opt out of, but the right remains yours. We do not use sensitive personal information, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. We will never discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us; we respond within 45 days.

Visitors from the EU/UK

Where GDPR applies, our lawful basis for the IP-location lookup is legitimate interest (showing you relevant local weather); preference cookies are set only as needed to honor your choices. You may request access, correction or erasure of any personal data we hold — in practice we hold almost nothing.

Changes
