About Mount Katahdin
The northern end of the Appalachian Trail. The Knife Edge traverse is the East's most exposed walk — a no-go in wind or storms.
Summit temperature is estimated from the Millinocket forecast using the −6.5°C/1,000 m lapse rate. Expect much stronger wind and lower visibility on the tops, and treat the freezing level as a guide rather than a measurement.
